Yes, You Can Get Seepage In The Winter

When it comes to waterproofing, don’t be lulled into a false sense of security during the colder months. Drenching rains, melting snow, and thawing ground cause a unique set of circumstances that can cause seepage in your basement.

Snow melts before the ground thaws. This causes the ground to become saturated accelerating any flooding that might occur during a rainfall. It also puts hydrostatic pressure on your foundation walls which could cause leaning or bowing walls. With enough pressure, your foundation walls could even collapse!

Also, freeze/thaw cycles may damage a foundation. Small cracks and crevices fill with water then freeze, expanding and opening the crack ever so slightly. This happens over and over, year after year until a threshold is reached and water seeps in. Deep freezes can cause this to occur even at at the base of the foundation.

We are expecting a strong storm this weekend that will dump several inches of rain onto the already saturated ground. While we are limited by the weather in the amount of exterior work we can do, we have several interior solutions available to eliminate your seepage issues. While it is cold now, the thaw is coming and seepage is a very real possibility.  Do not hesitate to call us at: 815-245-6890 or Book Online.
